Motoring in Spain

In this section we’ll give you advice on all aspects of motoring in Spain, from buying a car to what to do if you’re involved in an accident.
There is a certain degree of paperwork and bureaucracy involved in buying or selling a car in Spain and our website attempts to make it as simple as possible for you. If you follow the correct procedure and allow plenty of time to obtain all the relevant documentation you shouldn’t have any problems.
Generally, driving in this region can be a pleasurable experience as traffic isn’t too heavy and the scenery is spectacular. Towns are busier in the summer months but you can escape this and be out on the open road within minutes.

The rules of the road are sometimes different to what you might be used to, so it’s important to familarise yourself with them. Being stopped by the police can be quite a frightening experience, so of course you should do all you can to avoid this. Sometimes it’s inevitable as the traffic police are fond of setting up random road blocks. If you can speak any Spanish and are stopped by the police it will really help.
One important thing to remember is that it is a legal requirement to carry all your car documents with you in the car at all times, and you should always have your driving licence on you when driving in Spain.
