Set in a quite valley, inland between Benidorm and Altea, La Nucia contains a mix of both Spanish and foreign residents.  It’s the perfect location for those who don’t want the hustle and bustle of life on the coast, but still want easy access to it.

La Nucia has good road links, to Altea and Benidorm, and inland to Polop and Callos d’en Sarrià.  Near Callos d’en Sarrià are the beautiful Fonts de Algar waterfalls, where if you’re brave enough you can swim in the natural pools and wade upstream through the mountains (the water does tend to be icy cold, even in summer!).

You can also travel inland from La Nucia to the famous village of Guadalest, one of the most visited villages on the Costa Blanca.  On a clear day you’ll see the most stunning of views over the whole of the Guadalest  Valley.  The crystal clear water of the lake is a stark contrast to the lush fertile green of the valley.

Many people choose to live in la Nucia because of the climate.  It has almost a perfect Mediterranean climate as it’s fairly high up, so doesn’t get unbearably hot in summer, but is also protected from harsh north winds by the surrounding mountains.

A village of contrasts, La Nucia is a mix of traditional white houses and sprawling urbanisations (70 at the last count!).  Despite this urban growth, the village remains a pretty one as the council have tried to preserve its character by planting many trees and plants to complement the buildings.

Of course, you can’t visit any Spanish village without taking a trip to the market and picking up a few bargains!  La Nucia’s market is held on a Sunday.
