In Gata de Gorgos you’ll find a wealth of local crafts and artistic products, many made from cane and wicker. An afternoon’s shopping in this small town is sure to be spent finding many bargains for the home.
These items provide the main income for the town and the baskets, furniture, mirrors, and nik naks spill onto the pavements from the shops. The town is also known for its ceramic and guitar production. It also produces the grapes that make the famous Moscatel wine.
Every September there is an enormous craft fair in the town, known as the Artisan fair.
Gata gets its name from the Gorgos river, which winds through the town and leads down to the sea at Jávea. On one side of the river there is a large park where peaceful walks can be enjoyed.
As with many towns in this area Gata has a Moorish influence, which can be seen in the architecture of the main town. It became independent from nearby Denia in 1535.
During July the town hall organizes outdoor cinema performances, and the fiestas are in August.
