Leisure
As well as the numerous fiestas that take place throughout the year the Spanish love to relax with the family. Most shops close at lunchtime on a Saturday and don’t open again until Monday. The weekend is for catching up on a few jobs and then spending time chilling out.
The famous ‘paseo’ (walk) on a Sunday is the chance for Spanish people to dress up and stroll around town or along the promenade. A short walk can take an hour by the time everyone’s greeted each other and stopped for a chat. Take a trip to the Arenal in Javea, or the beach front in Calpe on a Sunday afternoon and you’ll see the Spanish dressed in their finery, and that includes the children!
When they’re not posing in their best clothes the Spanish do love to watch TV. Go into any Spanish home and the TV is likely to be on in the background.
Not to be forgotten is the Spanish love of football. You’ll find a football team in the smallest of Spanish towns and no children’s playground is complete without a game going on at playtime. Of course football is for the grown ups to, and if you want to start a conversation with a Spaniard football is the way to do it.
