There is an abundance of beautiful plants, scenery and wildlife in the local area. It’s a pleasure to explore the region at any time of year and the landscape is constantly changing with different plants flowering as the year progresses.
During the summer you can’t escape the glorious profusion of bougainvillaea tumbles down walls of homes everywhere and the oleander that lines the roadsides. There are spectacular palm trees everywhere, reminding you of the sub-tropical climate of this area.
Later in the year the numerous fields of orange and lemon trees bursting with fruit bring the region to life again, after the autumn lull. These last well into late spring and sit alongside the almond blossom in February that the area is famous for.
We’ve listed the most common dangerous plants in the area for your information. Don’t be surprised that many of them can be found in a UK garden.
There are a few rather unpleasant creepy crawlies around, but be wary, don’t disturb them and they’ll leave you alone. We’ve listed the more common ones so you know what to look out for.
Wild animals aren’t generally a problem in this area as it’s too inhabited. If you live in the countryside you’re likely to be treated to the sight of the odd fox or rabbit or even eagles soaring above the mountains.
In the sea it pays to be wary of the few creatures that can give you a nasty sting, particularly jellyfish. Jellyfish tend to swarm off the coast during the hot weather. When it’s known there are jellyfish in the water look out for the flags with pictures of jellyfish on them and also the yellow or red flags if the lifeguards feel it’s too dangerous to go in the sea.
