Bars & Cafes
Bars and cafes are social places as well as somewhere to have a drink and a snack. They are usually open all day and are a great place to find out local gossip and while away your time. Spending time in your local bar is also a great way to meet people, both Spanish and of your own nationality.
Sometimes you may be offered free tapas. Bars near the coast often serve a good old English breakfast and there are always ice creams for the children.
There’s no pressure in how long you sit in a bar. You can make a 1 euro cup of coffee last a couple of hours and no one will ask you to leave.
You don’t pay for your food or drinks until you’ve finished, when you then ask for the bill (la cuenta).
